“Racism”: the Left’s favorite (and often ONLY) card to play

We’ve all observed the wide-ranging scope of issues which have been termed “racist” by the Left before, and yet they never seem to adjust their playbook.

Most recently this was evident in the hue and cry over Obama’s pick for head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, Debo Adegbile. That he was defeated with the help of seven Democrats made it only slightly problematic for the race peddlers:

(via Investor’s Business Daily) – In a stinging political defeat and a sign even Democrats are getting fed up with the White House’s in-your-face radicalism, the Senate has rejected Obama’s controversial nominee for civil rights chief.

Maureen Faulkner ended up visiting individually with key Democrats before the vote to plead with them to honor her slain husband, Philly cop Daniel Faulkner, and not reward Adegbile for what she termed the “revolting” work he did on behalf of his killer — Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal.

The appeals worked. Several Democrats switched sides, including Sens. Chris Coons, D-Del.; Bob Casey, D-Pa.; Mark Pryor, D-Ark.; Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.; Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; Joe Donnelly, D-Ind.; and John Walsh, D-Mont.

Yep, Adegbile didn’t get approved and Reid’s own party made it happen. No matter. We were still instructed that this was the work of the Left’s most closely held shibboleth, “Republican Racism!!”:

(via Weasel Zippers) – …Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) … who has a law degree, said the vote against Debo Adegbile shows the Senate measures nominees according to race, and suggested the lawyer would have been confirmed as head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division if he was white instead of biracial. Adegbile was attacked by senators for heading the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, which represented murderer Mumia Abu-Jamal decades after a death sentence for killing a Philadelphia police officer.

“We sent a message: We have a double standard. A terrible double standard,” Harkin said…

Not to be left out of the fun, Jesse Jackson immediately and predictably echoed Harkin’s charge. NPR even tried to spin the Democrat turncoats as “southern” (codename for “bigots” in Liberal-speak), even though five of the seven Democrats were from northern states.

Hey, facts don’t matter where racism is concerned.

Which is why two major factors must be ignored: (A) Adegbile’s record just might have had something to do with folks’ opposition to him and (B) perhaps if Reid hadn’t gone Nuclear last year, Adegbile may not have faced such strident opposition.

No, all that matters is that the Race Card must be played, as virulently and as often as possible.

Darth - race is disturbing 9

Lost among all of this progressive hand-wringing over non-existent racism, real racism is occurring all around them. But as it doesn’t assist the Left in pursuing its goals, it gets flushed down the memory hole.

For instance, we had Condoleezza Rice’s recent gig as commencement speaker at Rutgers University being scuttled by its highly “progressive” faculty council. Mustn’t allow a black conservative to speak heresy to the youth, after all.

Even worse, we had Alabama Democratic State Representative Alvin Holmes’ explicitly racist screed which was caught on tape:

Did you see/hear that on the ABC Nightly News, CNN, or NBC? Ha-ha-ha..! Yeah, like that was ever gonna happen.

NBC eventually got around to mentioning it online, but far from expressing even a modicum of outrage over Holmes’ comments, they instead focused …elsewhere. Here is their article’s title:

“Alabama House Passes Nation’s
Toughest Abortion Bill”

Wow. I’ve seen burying the lede before, but that’s ridiculous.

Last year I observed that race had in essence become merely “a cudgel which one sector of the populace (liberals/Democrats) uses to beat another sector (Conservatives/Tea Partiers/Republicans)“.

The Left doesn’t seem inclined to try to prove my statement wrong anytime soon, apparently.

Of course, it’s probably racist for me to say that.

  1. I should be counting as a “win” that all they have as a reply to our arguments are cries of racism, but this is really getting tiresome.

    • I’d agree, James: the more shrill they become, the more their constant charges of racism are seen as baseless and strictly partisan. Sure, the crazies on the Left will buy it every time, but that group is getting progressively smaller (…pun very much intended).

I’ve always maintained that ad hominem attacks are the playground of the intellectually vacant. These cries of “racism” are nothing more than that. Can’t win an argument in the arena of ideas? It MUST be because the other person is either a racist, a bigot, a homophobe, blah, blah, blah…..

I applaud Alvin Holmes for apparently KNOWING what 99% of white people would do. Wonder if he has any FACTS to know what he’s talking about? Awww, heck! Who needs facts when you have inflammatory hyperbole?!
