Our Culture and our “Freedom” this #FourthOfJuly Weekend…

In honor of our nation’s anniversary, below are THREE separate items on the topic: 2 videos, along with a post from one of our Guest Bloggers…

A lesson in Labor: “Superman Joins A Union” (via @SCrowder)

For many of us, Labor Day signals the unofficial end to summer, while for others it’s just another 3-day weekend. But its history is an acknowledgement and celebration of our working men and women in the United States.

And yet the holiday is often portrayed as specifically for Labor Unions, which really doesn’t make sense nowadays, if it ever did. Back in the 1950’s (when over a third of the nation’s workers were unionized) it was at least arguable. But now? That number has dwindled to roughly only 12% of all workers, …and falling. And if we take out Public Sector unions, it drops to around 6%.

A variety of reasons have contributed to this, but the primary culprit is inescapable: Union Leadership itself.

And to illustrate what I mean (or just for its sheer entertainment value), please take a moment to enjoy the following clip from one of our favorite guys, Steven Crowder.

An excellent video (below) from comedian Steven Crowder: it’s imaginative, funny, … but more than a little troubling.

Primarily ’cause it’s true, or true enough.

Why IS Holder still running our Department of Justice, instead of experiencing the hospitality of our maximum-security prison system?? That we can even ask the question gives away the answer: lawlessness abounds in this Administration, with weaselly Eric Holder apparently running point.

And Crowder’s video notwithstanding, THAT’s not funny at all:

How the Media covers a story: #Benghazi vs. Valerie Plame and Abu Ghraib

The Media has been doing a masterful job of avoiding any-and-all discussions about Benghazi since the day after it happened, and it’s a job they are largely continuing.

However, in the rare instances that Benghazi does get mentioned, the comparison to Watergate is often made. Many on the Right have long made this connection, and just as many on the Left repeatedly call such comparisons ridiculous.

Personally, I think that comparison is imperfect, for a couple of reasons. First, the Press will never allow it to stand, since for many of them Watergate has been elevated to a sacred religious experience, to be celebrated and revered. Thus, they react to its being compared to other scandals in much the same way an Islamist does if you draw a cartoon of Mohammed, …minus the rusty scimitar and poor grooming habits.

Remember the “Peaceful Unions” who demonstrated their peace-loving peacefulness up in Michigan by cracking a political opponent in the face?

Do you also recall NOT seeing this reported on the Nightly News?

Well, that’s ’cause the Media had to come up with some reason to not air it, since it made their side (Liberal Democrat cronies, aka Unions) look bad.

Bullies on the Left

Do you remember a bully in your life? Do you also remember the first time you confronted him/her? Boy, I sure do…and I’m betting you do, too.

American culture has always celebrated the ‘little guy’ standing up to the bully. It’s been a common theme in stories, books, and movies ranging from A Christmas Story, to The Magnificent Seven, to The Ten Commandments. Such a fascination with rooting for the underdog isn’t difficult to trace: it’s part of our country’s fabric. The Revolutionary War itself was the ultimate story of standing up to the biggest bully around.

So I find it a little troubling that, more and more, bullying tactics by the Left are excused, embraced or flat-out ignored. We’ve seen it with the voter intimidation in Philadelphia back in 2008; we’ve seen it with the Occupy Movement; we saw it with the Wisconsin recall aftermath.

And now we’re seeing it with the incident up in Michigan the other night.

Unions doing what Unions do… (video)

If you aren’t a regular visitor here and thus don’t already know my opinion of most Unions, it’s pretty simple: I don’t like ’em. Of course, even if you aren’t predisposed against the modern-day Labor movement, this year’s shenanigans up in Wisconsin should have brought you up to speed.

So, when I heard about a Union “confrontation” during a protest in Michigan and its becoming a Right-to-work state (courtesy of PJTV’s Steven Crowder), I already had a pretty good idea of just what it’d look like.
