Washington DC’s “Food Police”: an unappetizing stew of Ego and Power

As tempted as I am to believe that our elected leaders and media elite are intentionally and overtly evil…I don’t. Rather, I hold that tremendous power coupled with outsized ego has infused them with the belief that “they know better” how we should live our own lives, and that’s that. 

They’ve no humility and even less doubt. Considering they could be wrong, or that their ideals ought not be made compulsory, simply never enters into the equation.

And for the most recent evidence of that theory, we can look no further than the White House’s ill-conceived Public School Lunch program, also known as Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFKA) of 2010.

#CommonCore is not the problem; the IDEA of Common Core is the problem…

More than any other aspect of the new Common Core curriculum right now, what I fear most is its top-down control, its federal centralization of power.

Much as we are seeing with Obamacare, and in direct contradistinction to the Free Market, centralized power is not nimble: it’s clumsy and slow, and is particularly susceptible to corruption. Which means that no matter how pure its ideals or what standards are set initially, eventually a monolithic federal agency is going to be riddled with all of the graft and spectacular inefficiency of any OTHER government bureaucracy.

Anti-gun Zombies continuing their attack on our Schools…

Our schools have long been Leftist training centers, but they’ve recently taken the next step in their overt brainwashing of our children. Time after time, they are reinforcing the precept that all guns are evil, regardless of context or form.

No need to rehash the myriad older examples: every day seems to bring forth new (and worse) ones, which only serve to further prove my point.

(Courtesy of CBS Los Angeles) – Sophomore Haley Bullwinkle said when she wore her NRA shirt to Canyon High School last month, she landed in the principal’s office for violating the school’s dress code that forbids offensive, violent or divisive clothing.

Two more examples of how Orwell’s ‘1984’ is becoming a reality in 2013:

One of the basic precepts of Orwell’s ‘Nineteen Eighty-four‘ is that individuals should not think for themselves, and that everyone is subservient to the State. It’s accomplished by reprogramming how people think, a reversal of logic and that which was known. Only through accepting these illogical reversals is someone “allowed” to exist:

“WAR IS PEACE;
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY;
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH”

These three basic slogans of the Party were everywhere. Even questioning them was tantamount to a Thoughtcrime, and was punishable as such.

But was ‘Nineteen Eighty-four‘ just a book, merely a dystopian fantasy to be discussed in an English Lit class? Because more and more, I’m getting the distinct impression that someone decided it’d make a pretty good “How-To” instruction manual.

My two sons began their new homeschooling year in earnest today, and my wife and I have big dreams for them… by today’s standards, at least.

You see, we want them to have SOME clue as to how many Supreme Court justices there are, and to be able to list all three branches of government in the U.S.A., or to know why the Declaration Of Independence was written.

I know: crazy, right?

But if we manage to do just that, the two of them will be geniuses, comparatively speaking.

Killing Heroism: student gets suspended AFTER preventing school bus shooting

Last year, we covered several stories of heroism (“Land of the Fearful; Home of the Meek“). In each case, normal, everyday folks took extraordinary action while at work which, in a saner time in our history, would have garnered them nationwide recognition. In these cases, however, their bravery and willingness to act resulted in their being fired.

Yes, fired.

I said at the time why I felt this was the case:

“All three of these incidents have people acting in a heroic manner, either out of bravery, concern for others or just self-preservation. When did this become objectionable?

The answer, of course, is that now we are supposed to be timid, mild-mannered sheep, who turn a blind eye to people in need or even to our own safety. We aren’t supposed to question authority, even when that authority is nowhere to be found.”

So when I read the news report below, I was horrified that I may have been even more correct at the time than I thought. From the New York Daily News:

Did we REALLY learn everything we need to know in Kindergarten? If so, that explains why everything is so screwed up…

Midnight in the KinderGarden of Eden

Not all that long ago, a not wholly inarticulate gentleman wrote a book in which he declared that All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten.  Mind you, this was not a tongue-in-cheek expose on the shallowness of thought in the modern liberal era; it was a proud declaration of the fact that the author knew that had he been morally and intellectually retarded at the age of five, he’d be exactly as smart and “accomplished” as he is today.

What do the election, Benghazi, and the Israel/Hamas war have in common?

ANSWER: culture.

For instance, when you shake your head and wonder how could any rational person think that Israel defending itself is an unprovoked attack, keep in mind that such “thinking” has been stoked, taught and reinforced to much of our society since they were in grade-school. In high-schools & colleges, ‘unpopular thought’ isn’t being discouraged: it’s being systematically stamped out. Our schools are now highly expensive inculcation centers, rather than institutions of higher learning.

The election? The logical result of a Progressive ideology which is pervasive throughout  our society.

Benghazi? Our president has lied, repeatedly, on this entire debacle and still the press doesn’t push for the truth, leaving it to the Wall Street Journal, conservative blogs and Fox News.
