In the past couple of weeks, we’ve probably heard more than we want to know about chicken sandwiches and alleged “hate speech”…if anything, that so-called controversy overshadowed the crazed doctoral student in the movie theater.
But did you hear about the violent and premeditated attack by individuals who do not appear to be clinically insane, which left more than 600 people dead and over 800 wounded? What? You say you didn’t hear about it?
There are a couple of reasons for that, I think. One is that the media didn’t give it much virtually any coverage. Another is that it was not actually one crime. It was many.
Since January 2nd of this year, 82 separate attacks have taken place in 20
countries, carried out by various Muslim factions against various Christian individuals or groups. It has cost over 600 of them their lives–men, women and children who were each gunned down, blown up, decapitated, burned, shot in the back while fleeing, or butchered with knives or machetes. The wounded include women raped and/or beaten, men stabbed, tortured, and machine-gunned.
According to the website The Religion of Peace,
These attacks have nothing to do with war, combat or insurgency. The victims are innocent Christians who were specifically targeted and abused solely on account of their faith by those who claim their own religion as a motive.
Did you catch that? NOTHING to do with war. EVERYTHING to do with hate. [Note, too, that these figures are only for the specifically-targeted Christian dead…if you include the civilians of other religious affiliation, including Muslim, then the total is much higher.]
How can we have the temerity to call honest expressions of politically incorrect opinion “hate crimes”…but ignore the hate-motivated rape, torture and murder being done around the world? The Christian Post estimates that over 100,000 Christians are martyred for their faith annually.
These acts do not become “less” criminal simply because they happen beyond our own borders, away from 24/7 news cameras and opinion makers. Innocent people were trying to live their lives, peacefully, when their worlds were turned into a nightmare from which they would not awaken.
The fact that these atrocities happened, and barely a scintilla of media coverage accompanied them, should shame our journalists. But they will feel no shame, because this carnage doesn’t count as what they perceive to be “news”. Horrific crimes committed by Muslims don’t fit into American media’s preconceived narrative, and leave them with nothing to spin to make themselves feel superior.
By all means, go out Wednesday and support freedom of speech by eating at Chick-fil-A. The JTR and GBL families will be there, I know. But pause for a moment, before you take a bite of that sandwich, to thank God you live in a country where you only suffer the rhetorical slings and arrows of outrageous hate, and don’t have to face the real thing. While you’re at it…say a prayer for those who do.
