What is the point of Gun Registration?

2nd Amnd 3

Recently, a federal judge upheld a law in Washington, D.C. requiring guns be registered every three years (among other things). Taken in conjunction with Connecticut’s “assault weapons” registration law which just went into effect January 1st, they portend ill-tidings for both the Second Amendment and our country itself.

Still, you might ask:  “What IS the problem with registration”? And if you did, I’d answer, “How much do you know about the Supreme Court decision entitled U.S. v. Haynes – 1968“?

Clayton Cramer wrote a fascinating article on the subject that I read at Firearms and Liberty.  His summary of the case is as follows:

“In Haynes v. U.S. (1968), a Miles Edward Haynes appealed his conviction for unlawful possession of an unregistered short-barreled shotgun.

His argument was ingenious:

The #NRA’s Colion Noir: Gun Rights are for EVERYONE… (video)

NRA 55Another video filled with common sense courtesy of the NRA’s charismatic spokesman, Colion Noir.

When one side of the political aisle seems to be so stridently ANTI-gun, it’s easy to see how this Balkanizing over 2nd Amendment pros-&-cons happened in the first place. But it’s critical for us all to keep in mind that not a single Amendment was written by Conservatives for Conservatives, or by Liberals for Liberals.

They were penned by Americans, for Americans.

And thank God for that:

Local businesses advertise they are ‘Gun Free Zones’. What could go wrong?

The Anti-2nd Amendment crowd is at it once again, this time agitating for businesses in Seattle to advertise their defenselessness to the whole, wide world.

Yeah, that’ll work out well:

(Seattle’s King5 News) – Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn is partnering with Washington CeaseFire to launch a new program designed to help local businesses become “Gun Free Zones.”

Businesses will be able to opt into the program by visiting  www.washingtonceasefire.org, signing the pledge to participate, and placing a “Gun Free Zone” decal in their window.

“We are here to support businesses that do not wish to have guns on their premises” McGinn said in a statement. “The police department regularly enforces trespass laws when a visitor to a business violates that business’s rules.

We will continue to do so, and I thank these businesses for standing up for the safety of their customers.”

An #NRA/Colion Noir double-shot: “Compromise” and “More Gun Laws”

NRA 55We haven’t linked anything from Mr. Colion Noir for too long, so consider these two videos an apology of sorts.

The first clip concerns the constant bleating from the anti-firearm-folks that 2nd Amendment advocates need to “compromise” more, which is a complete and total laugh. We’ve been compromising for years: when does the Anti-gun movement ever compromise? They legislate away more freedoms, but they never “give-up” anything: they just fail to get everything they demand.

That’s like a mugger only taking 20% of my cash, or just losing my leg in a shark attack.

#NRA’s Colion Noir: “Shame on YOU, Mr. President…”

NRA 55Another excellent video from the NRA’s Mr. Colion Noir, as he takes on the President over gun control, …again.

We’ve covered three of his previous efforts, which you can find here, here and here.

And, since there’s really nothing that I could add to improve this, I’m just going to let Colion put some learnin‘ to y’all…

Enjoy:

The NRA’s Colion Noir vs. Joe “Shoot-from-the-Lip” Biden

NRA LOGO 1We covered the NRA’s newest spokesman, Colion Noir, a while back. He’s logical, persuasive, and speaks in a commonsense manner on a wide range of gun myths. These myths persist in the media, despite their being disproved, so having someone out there who can consistently and effectively knock them down is essential.

Seriously, bringing someone of his caliber (pun very much intended…) on board was a great move by the NRA.

The Folly of Gun Registration

It’s practically a Pavlovian response at this point: every time an incident involving gun violence occurs, the resultant freak-out from the gun control advocates is always: “Somebody needs to do SOMETHING!!

Inevitably, the discussion leads to background checks and mandatory registration.  Since this blog already dissected the risible “90%” claim spouted by President Obama regarding background checks, let’s take a peek at mandatory registration, shall we?

You’d think that the Anti-Gun crowd would PROUDLY display this sign: “This House is Gun Free”

A mea culpa: I completely missed this video when it originally came out, back when the New York state newspaper (the ‘Journal News’published the names and addresses of pistol permit-holders in Westchester and Rockland counties.

No matter. It’s just as pertinent today, illustrating perfectly the tremendous hypocrisy exhibited by Leftists/Statists when it comes to what THEY claim to “believe” in.

From Twitchy.com:

Posing as “Citizens Against Senseless Violence,” O’Keefe and company visited the homes of anti-gun journalists employed by The Journal News in New York and the Star-Ledger in New Jersey.

They also swung by Touré’s place and paid a visit to the ol’ Eric Holder homestead. Each household was asked to display a yard sign with the words “This Home is Proudly Gun Free.”
