Obama March Madness: Scandals Edition

A nicely done video segment by the folks over at Campus Reform. Consider this post from our buddy Bret as a follow-up to our “With Change like THIS, perhaps there IS Hope“. Have Faith, gang: all is not yet lost…

T.B Rickert's Call

Sometimes you have to just go with the latest viral video. This one is from Campus Reform. Students from George Mason University rank the various scandals from the Obama Administration a la “March Madness” style.

The most telling moment is when one student proclaims; “It’s pretty incredible actually, I didn’t realize how many scandals were going on.”

OLD: “#BanBossy” — NEW: “Ban EVERY Word We Don’t Like”

Ban Bossy

In comparison, “Ban Bossy” looks positively restrained.

It was only a couple days ago that I wrote the following about the #BanBossy crowd:

“…we have the smarty-pantsers on the Left trying to remove another word from the English language, as they are wont to do. But words aren’t inherently cruel and a free society has no business banning ANY words. If you ban one word, people will simply substitute some OTHER word to convey that same meaning. Guaranteed.

Worth noting is it seems to be the allegedly free-speech-loving Progressives who are always enamored with the removal or banning of words. Our institutes of higher learning seem especially smitten with this idea…”

And in light of this newest example, my observation can only be termed disturbingly prescient:

Two more examples of how Orwell’s ‘1984’ is becoming a reality in 2013:

1984 - cover

One of the basic precepts of Orwell’s ‘Nineteen Eighty-four‘ is that individuals should not think for themselves, and that everyone is subservient to the State. It’s accomplished by reprogramming how people think, a reversal of logic and that which was known. Only through accepting these illogical reversals is someone “allowed” to exist:

“WAR IS PEACE;
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY;
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH”

These three basic slogans of the Party were everywhere. Even questioning them was tantamount to a Thoughtcrime, and was punishable as such.

But was ‘Nineteen Eighty-four‘ just a book, merely a dystopian fantasy to be discussed in an English Lit class? Because more and more, I’m getting the distinct impression that someone decided it’d make a pretty good “How-To” instruction manual.

San Jose State University Meteorology decides burning books they don’t agree with is better than reading them

Remember the old days, when our Colleges, Universities & various Institutes of Higher Learning all bragged that they existed to encourage an “open exchange of ideas”?? That they wanted to teach kids HOW to think, not WHAT to think??

—-

Not any more, they don’t…

Watts Up With That?

From the Fahrenheit 451 department comes this indictment of California’s higher education’s “tolerance” for opposing views. When I first got the tip on this, I thought to myself “nobody can be this stupid to photograph themselves doing this” but, here they are, right from the San Jose State University Meteorology Department web page:

SJSU_bookfire

The caption from the SJSU website reads:

This week we received a deluge of free books from the Heartland Institute {this or this }. The book is entitled “The Mad, Mad, Made World of Climatism”. SHown above, Drs. Bridger and Clements test the flammability of the book.

Maybe they just can’t help themselves, note the pictures on the wall.

Here is a screencap of the website relevant section:

Are you planning on paying for your kid’s college? Good luck with that…

I have two sons, and I have no idea if they’ll be going to college.

Now don’t misunderstand: both of my boys are extremely bright (my admitted parental bias notwithstanding). My concerns are twofold: one is the Anti-American, Leftist agenda that I see being forced into the schools, and the other is cost.

We’ve previously addressed my first concern, with our school’s (Kindergarten through Graduate school) overarching goal apparently being the creation of one class of “Generation Cupcake” after another, so I’m going to skip that for today.

StudentDebtMy second concern (COST) is just as problematic, and just as unnecessary.

From Reuters.com:

NEW YORK, Feb 26 (Reuters) – With rising U.S. college costs and too many options, parents are saving less than they expected for their children’s higher education.

DUMB & DUMBER: Colorado legislators Ulaberri and Salazar offer “alternatives” to having a gun.

Anytime that someone says the Left is so good at messaging, I laugh. They’re even more hapless than the GOP can sometimes be. The difference is that when the Left says something dumb, their media friends don’t repeat it. Ever.

And as if by request, the Rocky Mountain state decided to give us TWO examples which will never, ever appear on the NBC Nightly News. Here’s the first one:

Yes!! You don’t require a gun, because if someone tries to hurt you, you always have the option of whipping out your trusty PaperMate® pen to fend off your attacker.

Maybe Democratic State Senator Ulaberri thinks that’s what they meant in the old westerns when someone said “Draw”…?

draw-your-gun-

And as bad as that was, this next one is possibly even worse.

What do the election, Benghazi, and the Israel/Hamas war have in common?

—–

ANSWER: culture.

For instance, when you shake your head and wonder how could any rational person think that Israel defending itself is an unprovoked attack, keep in mind that such “thinking” has been stoked, taught and reinforced to much of our society since they were in grade-school. In high-schools & colleges, ‘unpopular thought’ isn’t being discouraged: it’s being systematically stamped out. Our schools are now highly expensive inculcation centers, rather than institutions of higher learning.

The election? The logical result of a Progressive ideology which is pervasive throughout  our society.

Benghazi? Our president has lied, repeatedly, on this entire debacle and still the press doesn’t push for the truth, leaving it to the Wall Street Journal, conservative blogs and Fox News.
