(Sen. Harry Reid, from the Senate Floor, April 23, 2013): “…Government is not inherently bad; government is inherently good.
That’s why we have a Constitution and that’s what we direct the activities of this government based upon…”
When I called that the single most ridiculous statement of the year, I was probably soft-selling it. It may now be the most ridiculous statement of the decade.
Consider this newest example:

We’ve had so much press recently on the raft of scandals emanating from the White House, it can get overwhelming. And sometimes we need to remind ourselves what’s really at stake here.
It’s not an effort to bring down this presidency. Given the damage that Obama has already caused our nation, I wouldn’t necessarily object to it…, but that’s not the point. Nor is it an effort to hamper Hillary Clinton’s possible viability for a presidential bid in 2016. And it’s not an “anti-government” fatwa by any stretch (I’m talking to you, Rachel Maddow…).
This is all about freedom. OUR freedom.
We live (for the time being, at least) in the freest nation on Earth. But if an administration, ANY administration, can conduct secret, illegal campaigns against political enemies, or attempt to silence the press; if they can seemingly ignore cries for help from our fighting men and women, instead of rushing to their aid; if they have the power to strong-arm businesses to “voluntarily” contribute to government “causes”… then we will no longer be the MOST free nation.
We won’t be free at all.

I can’t believe anyone would doubt the word of Hillary.
Wait a sec: …Hillary CLINTON?
Hillary “Rose-Law-Firm, Vince-Foster-suicide, Whitewater, New Square Four, Landing Under Sniper Fire, “I-was-named-after-Sir-Edmund-Hillary”, inventor of the “Vast-Right-Wing-Conspiracy”, Marc-Rich-pardon-orchestrating, and owner of a list of crooked friends-&-business partners (e.g. Webb Hubbell & Ron Brown) as long as King Kong’s arm” Clinton?
Yeah, what was I thinking…
At least it seems Ace of Spades is just as much of a heartless jerk as I am:

I link him frequently, but I’ve never boosted an entire post from Ace before. After you read this, though, you’ll understand: there isn’t a way to carve out just part of it.
You really, really need to read it all.
Many thanks to Ace over at AceofSpadesHQ.
It’s terrible. It’s never happened before.
A President despised by one party has won an election despite having the economy against him and a deteriorating situation in a country he invaded, and, despite growing whispers that he’s simply not up to the job, he wins narrowly in a victory fueled by highly-motivated occasional voters who marched out to support him.
The candidate beaten by this weak, lame-duck president had good qualifications on the key issue of the election. Sure, that candidate lacked charisma and warmth, and was a wealthy New Englander viewed skeptically by much of the country, but he did have a background which gave him inarguable authority to speak on the most important issue of the day.
