“The Mob Rules”: Libs call for Firing of Opinion Writer, over his Opinion

With apologies to Black Sabbath:

Mob Rules - The Left

The last time we checked in on our Leftist Mob, they were calling for the head of Mozilla’s CEO, and we all recall how THAT turned out, don’t we?

Well, they’re back, and just as outrageously outraged as ever. This time, the Perpetually Perturbed Provocateurs got their knickers knotted over (what else?) someone’s opinion which dared run counter to the latest Leftist Dogma.

(via the Weekly Standard) – “…Last week, George Will wrote a column about how progressive politics have fomented “rape culture” on college campuses. The column was not well received by some, or even, as a great many of the histrionic responses would indicate, well understood. I received the following press release yesterday, headlined: “87,000 Call on The Washington Post to Address Sexism, Fire George Will.”

A group called ‘UltraViolet’ was touting the success of an online petition they’d whipped up over the controversy. From the release:

“The past week has seen the Washington Post devolve to violent and shameful rhetoric that normalizes rape and violence against women. In the face of a national epidemic of sexual violence, The Washington Post should take a stand against rape– starting by firing George Will, said Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet. “From mocking survivors to misleading the public on demands for college sexual assault reform and blaming women for violence against them– the Post has left the realm of honest debate and entered the realm of hate-speech and dog whistles.

Are these people completely daft?

First of all, even a cursory reading of Will’s column is sufficient to render these accusations utterly baseless. But let’s say they weren’t: his column would STILL be his opinion. George is a professional Opinion Writer; it’s his actual, bona fide job title. Honest:

George-Will-570x519

Keep in mind that there’s all sorts of liberal Opinion Writers: when was the last time 90,000 Conservatives got together and demanded Ezra Klein or Maureen Dowd be fired? Exactly: never. But no, Will has offended the Lefty Victim sisterhood, and must be made to pay with his job.

Yeah, that sounds perfectly reasonable.

Second of all, the Weekly Standard took a peek at the person behind this petition, UltraViolet co-founder Nita Chaudhary. It appears that Ms. Chaudhary is a longtime Democrat operative, a former campaign director at MoveOn.Org, and is currently married to (well, waddaya know!) the White House’s director of progressive media.

So Chaudhary is basically a professional agitator, whose hubby now works for the Community Organizer in Chief, …which seems just about right, when you think about it.

The towering irony of the “Fire George Will” campaign being waged by people who uniformly and self-righteously refer to themselves as ‘tolerant‘ would be highly amusing were it not so pernicious. To these modern-day Burners of Thought Witches, the only ideas allowed near the marketplace must be the very latest undiluted Leftism. Whatever word you’d like to use to describe such behavior, ‘tolerant‘ ain’t it.

But no matter. As long as the blood-lust of the Left is temporarily sated, we can all rest easy. At least, until they select their next victim.

When the Mozilla brouhaha was raging, I wrote the following:

“…Make no mistake, that is where we’re rapidly headed: a forced uniformity of thought, where someone is made to pay a public penalty for the secular sin of possessing a contrary personal opinion.

Empowering a mob to apply what amounts to an ideological purity test for everyone, on everything, can only result in one outcome…”

Based on this targeting of Mr. Will, that one outcome is no longer just approaching. Figuratively, if-not-quite-yet literally, it’s already here.

  1. BINGO! You win the prize JTR 😉 seriously, well said…

    • Great to see ya’, Teach! And thanks much. 😀
I seriously can’t stand this ever-increasing double standard of behavior Leftists are continually pushing. Before long, we’ll have a caste system like India, and you can guess where we’ll be in THAT hierarchy.

**(PS – I was guessing my Photoshopped version of that album cover might catch YOUR eye, even if no one else might be familiar with it.)

“As long as you all agree with us, you will find us to be VERY tolerant of your views.” Stalin and Hitler would be VERY proud of them….

    • When discussing the recent Bergdahl trade, the White House referred to such a situation as reaching a “forced consensus”.

That was the first time I’d heard that term used outside of the Global Warming debate, but it meant the same thing: the carving-out and/or elimination of dissent.

Get used to it, buddy: you’re gonna hear that term a bunch, going forward…

  3. Been reading a book on diet and health: The Big Fat Secret. She documents the rise of the evil saturated fat theory foisted by Keyes, a man looking for his name in lights using manipulated data. When respected scientists challenged his work with research of their own, he silenced them! He mimiced them. He made fun of them. The AHA joined forces with him and so was born the cholesterol theory of saturated fat causing heart disease. (It’s a bit off track. Simple sugars are probably the culprit.).

At any rate, I see the same human traits of silencing your opponent to win the argument. Even in science with the scientific method and principles, humans succeed in ruining mankind. And here we are with a group of people pushing forward with more totalitarianism and control of the people. What do they think is going to happen?

    Will they be spared?

  4. Ah, the tolerant left. Have to love people that can’t stand any opinion they disagree with.

  5. This all (with the others) leaves me to wonder what an economy run by Liberals — ideologues — would look like? I stopped wondering.
