TRIGGER WARNINGS: the latest innovation from the Lamest Generation

It’s our fault, of course.

We ARE their parents, after all.

time-magazine-the-me-me-me-generation1

There’s been quite a few articles of late concerning a new (and quite frankly offensive) concept, which comes to us from the myopic minds of Generation Bubble-wrap.

It’s called a “Trigger Warning”:

The best hockey commercials EVER, …and how we MIGHT be seeing more of ’em, sooner than we think

NHL logo 4

The commercials are at the bottom of this post. But if you’ll allow me just a moment, I’ll explain what got me thinking about ’em in the first place.

As a lifelong fan of all things hockey, I’m well aware that it’s the black sheep of the United States professional sports “family”, viewership-wise. To illustrate, the NBA’s playoffs ratings are destroying the NHL’s right now; it’s not even close. Even the NFL draft (the freakin’ draft?!?!?) crushed the Boston/Montreal Game 6 Semifinal in the ratings by a 5-to-1 margin.

And this has been the trend, unfortunately. Heck, the first two games of the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals (both nationally broadcast on NBC, by the way) got soundly thrashed by RERUNS of the following programs: ‘Dogs In The City’, ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’, ‘Secret Millionaire’, ‘America’s Got Talent’, ‘Grimm’, ‘2 Broke Girls’, …and a rerun of the rerun of ‘America’s Got Talent’.

Yikes.

That’s the difference between getting beat …and getting a beat-down.

Goon -- beat up

And yet, both the league and the sport are positioned for success, perhaps now more than ever before.

Remember: NO ONE is more upset about (fill-in-the-blank) than BARACK OBAMA…

Obama-says - more upset than you

Let your mind drift back to any number of incidents and scandals over the past 5+years: the failed Obamacare website; the AP phone records; the IRS. And then ask yourself: what was President Obama’s reaction?

It’s always the same: only the reasons for it change. And this time, Barack’s reason for being more upset than you (or anyone else) is the burgeoning VA scandal.

From the Wall Street Journal:

‘…White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough took to CNN Thursday to say that “nobody’s more mad than the president.” Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters the president is “concerned and angry” about the situation.

That, as my colleagues Colleen McCain Nelson and Ben Kesling write, reprised, nearly verbatim, a similar White House tactic from last fall’s health-care website debacle. In October, Mr. Obama spoke of his anger in the Rose Garden. “Nobody’s madder than me about the fact that the website isn’t working as well as it should,” he said...’

Especially since his Nobody’s-More-(blank)-Than-Me shtick usually is in regards to some level of incompetence or illegality perpetrated by the Government. You know, that big Federal thingamajig of which he’s ostensibly in charge??

IT’S A DANGEROUS BUSINESS GOING OUTSIDE MY DOOR

Finding myself too fatigued for original thought this evening…but I came across this post, which combines references to one of my favorite authors (J.R.R. Tolkein) with one of my favorite Scripture passages (the whole armor of God in Ephesians 6). A blessed Sunday to you all, and thanks to Resting in His Grace.

Resting in His Grace

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:2-3

I don’t like fighting. I prefer to live a nice quiet bucolic life. Gardening. Having tea.   Eating well and often. Giving away gifts.

More Hobbit than Dwarf.

But in this world, as in Middle Earth, if you don’t go to the fight…the fight will come to you. And it would be advantageous to find that “there is more to this Hobbit than meets the eye.”[1]

Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Ephesians 6:13

The Left’s never-ending cries of “McCarthyism!!”

The Left’s responses to various stimuli are now so predictable they’re practically Pavlovian:

  • You criticize the president or his goals? You’re racist.
  • You criticize Hillary? You’re sexist and/or you’re “scared” of “strong women”.
  • You object to the way Mozilla’s CEO lost his job? You hate gays.

And if you try to discover the truth about a possible Democrat scandal, you’re accused of “McCarthyism“.

Bill to protect women from taking abortion drug AGAINST THEIR WILL called “Senseless”, “Extreme”

Cytotec - abortion pill

Roughly a year ago, we covered a story about a man accused of tricking his girlfriend (who was less than seven weeks pregnantinto taking the abortion drug Cytotec in order to kill their unborn child.

We wrote at the time:

“…Andrew John Welden is accused of first-degree murder.  Not a crime against Lee, but a crime against a baby. A baby that Remee Lee could have killed legally for another four months, if it had been her choice, instead of his. While for herself, Lee can only claim “battery and emotional harm”, the federal grand jury’s charges could put Weldon in jail for murder.

Standardized Tests Have Gone Too Far

Some valid points and concerns about our troubled Public Education system (**courtesy of our buddy, Cosmo).  My wife and I currently homeschool our two sons, …and posts like this make us grateful that we do.

???????????

cosmoscon

Much has changed in the our education system since I attended high school in the mid 80’s and one of the biggest is the number of standardized tests students are required to take.

From NPR:

“High school students in the U.S. take lots of standardized tests. There are state tests, new Common Core-aligned field tests, and an alphabet soup of others like the PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) and NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) exams, the SAT, ACT, AP and IB.”

Before I get to my point of this post, don’t misunderstand me. Our educators need to be held accountable and we need to improve how we educate our children (parents are included in this too….) and if you want to improve something then you have to have a metric that you can use to measure your success or failure.

Lord Kelvin put it best:

“If you…

Harry Reid’s #Koch-fueled Nightmares

No surprises here:

Harry Reid, Koch Addict -- Lisa Benson

Reid has been going after these two men for what seems like forever. Yet despite his obsession, over half the nation still has zero idea who they even are, and another 11% has no opinion about them. And according to that same poll, more Americans disapprove of Reid himself than of the Koch brothers.
