President Petulant hits a new low: the WWII Memorial Fiasco…

We’ve all seen it before: Obama & Co warns that your failure to fully fund the Government will result in plagues and pestilence and then, when you have failed to heed his dire warnings, he tries to ensure you feel the pain as personally as is possible.

Yes, despite his Chicken Little act, nothing bad actually happens, other than what he choreographs for maximum effect.

Sequester - Obama

Case in point: do you recall all the ‘Mad Max’-type horrors across the country, which came about as a direct result of the Sequester?

No?

My point exactly…

But that was a mere warm-up of sorts, an apéritif for the larger meal that is the Great And Terrible Government Shutdown of 2013.

This has been going on for the last 24 hours, with WWII vets initially denied access to their own Memorial:

(via the Washington Examiner) – The National Park Service is sending so many officials out to shut down federal parks from visiting Americans that at this rate it might have to suspend furloughs if the government closure continues.

Two examples:

— At the World War II Memorial on The Mall in Washington, where veterans have been staging protests to keep it open, Washington Examiner’s Charlie Spiering reports that at least seven officials were dispatched Wednesday morning to set up a ring of barricades to block tourists from the memorial. That is two more security officials than the State Department had in Benghazi a year ago on the night of the terrorist attack that killed four, including the U.S. ambassador.

— National Park Officials closed down the educational Claude Moore Colonial Farm near the CIA in McLean, Va., even though the federal government doesn’t fund or staff the park popular with children and schools. Just because the privately-operated park is on Park Service land, making the federal government simply its landlord, the agency decided to close it.

It’s been getting plenty of play, and has caused quite the ruckus on Twitter. As could be expected, Ace Of Spades expertly captured the Administration’s transparent motivation, as well as the Media’s eagerness to ignore it:

But did the professional Left which is running our Nation learn from their ludicrous mistakes?

Ummm, …no.

(via Allahpundit at HotAir) – “…As I write this at a few minutes after 10:30 ET, (Washington Examiner’s Charlie) Spiering is tweeting that the vets are scheduled to arrive within the next 15 minutes. Is your government really about to arrest 96-year-olds who fought at Guadalcanal because this bit of sub-moronic shutdown theater is too precious to them to forfeit?

Stay tuned. It wouldn’t be the first own-goal they’ve scored because their pettiness overwhelmed their sense of optics…”

Thankfully for the WWII vets who traveled from far and wide to visit, they were (finally) allowed in.

But it begs the questions: Why? Is this what a government “Of the people/by the people/for the people” should be doing when they can’t figure out how to spend our money?

And lastly, if our Federal Government is willing to be so incalculably petty toward its citizenry, so desperate to prove themselves necessary to our daily lives, that they’d even CONSIDER pulling a stunt like this (not to mention actually following through on it), what aren’t they willing to do?

**sigh**

No need to answer that last one…

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Congratulations, Mr. Obama! You have become EVERYTHING you protested against. If there were a “Government Scouts” program, you have qualified for the following “badges”:
    Pettiness
    Lack of thrift
    Racism in Action
    Prevarication
    Evasiveness
    Posturing
    Foreign Policy Disaster
    Cover Up
    Teleprompter Reading
    Blaming
    Finger Pointing
    Pot Smoking
    Drug Dealing
    Dog Eating

And, with the highest score ever, you have been awarded your “Whiner” badge.

Congrats, you big ol’ lovable lunk, you!

  2. First King’O’Tantrum shut down The Peoples’ House and now, one by one, The Peoples’ Monuments… these National Sites belong to The People, NOT to any government, including the federal nanny. Anyone see a pattern here? Yes… all dictator wannabees must ‘test the waters’ a bit at a time, before making their BIG move.

As we watch one hand, let us not forget there is another one. I can only hope The People see how petty, spiteful and vindictive this ‘president’ is.

    Pathetic.

  3. Thank you JTR 😀

  4. Grrrr. This is SO well-written, and such important information…but I don’t LIKE it at all. I feel as if I’m living in a state of perpetual incredulity. If my mouth drops open any more, I’m gonna develop TMJ. Seriously.

  5. Heard he closed a beach in Virginia. He makes me sick!!!

  6. the old curmudgeon

Hmmnnn? Does this all mean that the American people can’t be trusted to go anywhere or do anything without a government plantation overseer to watch us? Apparently so.

    • You know the term “Helicopter Parents”, for parents who don’t trust their kids to be kids, and constantly monitor every single thing they do? You know how that causes all sorts of developmental problems for the child?

      Welcome to “Helicopter Government”.

  7. NO football either! He is nothing but a BULLYinChief!

Shutdown Bullies: Football Games Under Threat
Posted by Gateway Guest Blogger on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, 5:33 PM

The U.S. Air Force Academy football team has played the Naval Academy every year since 1972. In 1976, when a government shutdown was caused by a Democratic-controlled Congress and a Republican was in the White House, the game was played.

    Not this year.

    ESPN reports:

Air Force associate athletic director Troy Garnhart said travel for his sports teams was being halted — including for Saturday’s football game at Annapolis, Md. A scheduled news conference with Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun and players was canceled Tuesday “due to the government shutdown,” according to a statement.

Ironically, the football teams at the U.S. military academies play for the “Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy.” Now we see what kind of Commander-in-Chief this President really is: Nothing more than a bully.

UGH. Such a CHILD this ‘president’ is… throwing his little fit because he is not getting his way all easy peasy. I’m to the point now, that I hope he continually gets opposition for the remainder of his term… there should be no peace for the wicked!

    • Bully. Baby. Wicked. Creep.
      They all seem to apply:
“…We could run our entire athletics program and conduct events as we always do without any government funds,” Gladchuk said. “In talking to the Air Force athletic director, their football team could execute the trip without government funding.”

Asked WHY the Department of Defense was suspending intercollegiate athletic contests if government funds are not required, Gladchuk said he was told it was about “optics.”

“It’s a perception thing. Apparently it doesn’t resonate with all the other government agencies that have been shut down,” Gladchuk said….
      —–

      Yep, “OPTICS“.
Stuff this stupid and crazy always has to be real, because it’s too far-fetched for someone to have written it…

  8. So far he hasn’t given our country back to Great Britain. But he is working on giving it to the Muslims. He really doesn’t like us very much.

    • I’m with ya, B-ville.
I’d probably go so far as to say that he has total contempt for our nation as it presently exists. But we’re in basic agreement, so I can live with “doesn’t like us…“, too.
      😉

  9. If moderate Dems can’t see what he’s doing with this, they must all be of the low IQ variety.
    DISGUSTING.

    • Disgusting to be sure, tannngl, but although some undoubtedly fit your “low IQ” description, I’m equally sure many of them are at or above normal intelligence, and some are of very high intelligence.

It’s scarier than them just being stupid.
They’re ignorant because they WISH to be so: there’s no need to cover the eyes of the willfully blind.
