College kids told to “stomp on Jesus” in class…

***NOTE: This story has now been updated twice. The first update is HERE.

Why am I not surprised by this stuff anymore?

From the Daily Caller:

A student at Florida Atlantic University has charged that his professor in intercultural communications class told the whole class to write the name JESUS in bold letters on a piece of paper, then drop the papers and stomp all over them.

FAU-Jesus

The alleged incident happened three weeks ago on the Davie, Florida campus of FAU, according to WPEC-TV. Junior Ryan Rotela, a devout Mormon, is the student making the charge.

(…)

Some students stomped; others, including Rotela, didn’t. He said he told the instructor, Deandre Poole, that the assignment offended his religious convictions. Two days later, the junior alleges, he went to an FAU school official to express his unease with the assignment.

The result? Rotela has been suspended from the class.

An FAU official defended the decision, telling WPEC that the Jesus-stomping was part of a classroom exercise from a textbook: “Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach, 5th Edition.”

Do I even need to say it?

Can I safely assume that The Prophet Muhammad (“…peace be upon him…“) was NOT included in the stomping? Can I also assume because to do so would have been viewed as “insensitive”? Can I also assume if THAT particular religious figure was stomped on, we’d have heard this being reported breathlessly by the Network News Media?

Yeah, I think I can.

This professor is just another lefty in academia, which is as rare as Coors Light on campus nowadays. He has just as much right to teach whatever insulting schmutz he wants in class, and the University has a right to keep him, promote him or fire him.

Their call.

My problem is the student being suspendedNo student should be forced to do something so obviously disrespectful to their religion or face suspension, and I tip my hat to the kid who stood up and complained. Ryan Rotela is a rapidly diminishing exception to an ever-growing rule.

My even bigger problem is: why anyone who’d be offended by this is spending tens of thousands of dollars for their child to attend? I doubt this is the first such incident at the school, or by this professor. There are plenty of colleges around, and not all of them (yet) have idiots pulling ridiculous stunts like this.

Vote with your wallets, folks.

As we discussed the other day, the Left only loves ‘Leftist‘ free speech. Anything that insults things they don’t like is totally peachy keen, while they believe actions or language which offends their sensibilities should be stamped out, …or stomped on.

Thus, only when we stop feeding our kids to these Halls of Inculcation will it stop. And like the famous axiom from Einstein goes, “doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, is the definition of insanity“.

The Left isn’t going to change their ways. If we want a different result, we need to change ours.

  1. I’m going to refrain from what I would have done with the textbook that told me to do anything like that. It still always amazes me that the liberals preach tolerance in all ways except with faith and those who disagree with them. Just go ask a Black or Hispanic who doesn’t march in step with them, how they are treated by Liberals. The never ending stupidity of these people is endless.

    • That’s about the size of it, Blaine. Ask Dr. Carson how warm and welcoming the Left has been to him recently.
      Or Colin Noir.

The Left has made their bed, but they want ALL of us to lie in it. The sooner we stop playing by their rules, the better off we’ll be.

  2. Teaching the “good” kind of hate…

  3. The Left who preach about tolerance are the most intolerant of all. I would have asked “Is it okay if I write Allah on the paper and stomp on it?”

  4. What about the issue of FAU being a State College? As such, don’t they receive “taxpayer dollars” to fund their institution, and, as such, couldn’t they be considered part of “government”? When did it become acceptable to the “Separation of Church and State” crowd to promote the religion of being against Jesus? I don’t care if the professor offered “extra credit” for defecating on a piece of paper with “Mohammed” written on it. It would be equally unacceptable and insensitive. (Isn’t THAT the key word in ANY conversation?)

    • QUOTE: “When did it become acceptable to the “Separation of Church and State” crowd to promote the religion of being against Jesus?”

There’s your mistake, partner: The Left largely holds that their dis-belief is “Pragmatism”, rather than a religion unto itself. Which is funny, since it has been detailed many times by now times that Pragmatism (and by extension Liberalism, Environmentalism and/or Statism) has all of the earmarks of what we would commonly call a religion.

And yes, your example would be equally unacceptable. Good luck trying to get a true-blue Leftist to agree with you on that one, though…

      😉

  5. I’m not shocked anymore either. I’ve tried to explain the incoherent way liberals understand tolerance here: http://thedemocracyofthedead.wordpress.com/2012/11/18/tolerance-the-ever-shifting-goal-post/

    • Hello, Marcus!

I actually read that post of yours the other day when I visited your site. Your best line was: “In the liberal mind, everything must be “celebrated,” everyone must be “proud” of everything, with the sole exception, of course, of those things which are CONTRARY to the liberal order.”
That’s exactly the case here, as it is in so many of our posts…including the one from yesterday.

Just going along to get along, or thinking “it’s no big deal”, has gotten us pretty far down a literal Road to Serfdom, and we’d better wake up.
Like I said, the Left won’t change: WE have to change.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
      It’s appreciated, and we hope you’ll return…!

  6. Why am I not surprised by this kind of thing any more?

That’s a question I’ve been asking for quite some time now. What scares me is waiting for the other shoe to drop. When will they pull some stunt that finally does surprise me? I’m afraid to ask.

    • James, my brother…..the ONLY “stunt” they could pull now and surprise me would be if they showed respect to Christians and actually FOLLOWED the Constitution’s original intent. Other than that, I’m not surprised at every “next step” they take DOWN the ladder of civility.

    • James, I echo Pgh here: the possibility of what WOULD surprise me scares me, ’cause very little does.
This has become war, as Breitbart famously stated.

And just because some folks on the Right don’t accept it, doesn’t mean the militant secularist Left isn’t waging one.

  7. This just in…all representations of Christian faith that are visible outdoors must be removed to protect the new “offended class” of citizens created by executive order…..This includes crosses (even in cemeteries and on headstones), all Jesus, Mary, angels, Saints, cherubs, paintings and statuary, Plus all churches will need to change their architecture to a more generic, nondescript form….More at 6….

    • You and I are kidding, of course, but there is a growing contingent that would love to see this enacted.

The line in the sand has been drawn. We better stand and fight now, or we won’t be able to later….
