Once upon a time, journalists were professionally curious individuals who could sniff out a story like a bloodhound, would look for clues diligently, and wouldn’t take ‘no‘ for an answer.
Plus, the Fourth Estate instinctively knew when they were being fed a line of bull by the current Administration, regardless of which party was in the White House.
Wow, that seems like a very long time ago, indeed.
Gregory then pressed McCain on what the Arizona senator meant by “a massive cover-up.”
“I’m asking you, do you care whether four Americans died?” McCain said. “And shouldn’t people be held accountable for the fact that four Americans died?”
“Well, what you said was the cover-up–a cover-up of what?” Gregory asked.
Watch the clip again – is it me, or does it appear that even the concept of a cover-up is news to Mr. Gregory?
When guys like John McCain are the ones getting into fights with the press, my world is officially upside-down. Just last week, it was Lindsey Graham who was outlining the many areas where the Obama White House has been, let’s say, …”reticent“…, in answering Benghazi-related questions. Both McCain & Graham have been like hungry bulldogs with a steak on this subject: they’ve got a hold of it and they aren’t giving it up until they’re done.
Conversely, since our media is so assiduously incurious as to why our men were left to die in Benghazi, it’s not hard to figure out why Obama & Co. feel no pressure whatsoever to be more forthcoming.
However, the answers WILL come out about Benghazi, eventually; they always do. Here’s hoping the new two-headed monster of McCain and Graham keeps the pressure up until the dam breaks on this story sooner than ‘eventually’.
They are doing the media’s job for them…and it’s about time someone did.
I’m certainly glad that both McCain and Graham are keeping the pressure on about what happened in Benghazi. Gregory is like most in the liberal press, if the story doesn’t involve blaming Republicans or Conservatives then they don’t care. McCain is usually good about our National Security and the military, the rest is what bothers me about him.
I feel the same way, Blaine. Not used to seeing the two of them be the attack dogs for the Right, but nowadays we need all the help we can get.
And yeah, McCain always manages to screw up my positive feelings about him by embracing some idiot position somewhere. Let’s hope he can tamp down those urges long enough to make some headway with Benghazi…
My interpretation of Gregory’s comments is “Who cares?! There aren’t any Conservatives or Republicans to crucify here, ergo….there’s NO STORY!”.
LOL!
😀
Yep, that’s about it, buddy. “No story” = “we are unable to spin this as a negative attack on Repubs”.
I really should publish a book of translations: ‘Main Stream Media-ese made Easy‘ or some such thing….
What? You mean we are not witnessing the most transparent administration in the history of the US? What does McCain and Graham want? This administration has been very clear on Benghazi; they have no idea of three out of the five w’s: They know the when and the where….they just don’t have any idea of what happened, who did it and why. Expecting them to do so is asking too much.
Thanks for stopping by, JJ!
Yes, its protestations to the contrary, this administration is not transparent in any way, unless you count “transparently partisan and evasive”.
And I like your 3 missing W’s: we have suspicions, but we want answers. And journalists like D. Gregory persist in maintaining that we already know everything there is to know about Benghazi, and any further investigation is unwarranted. Move along now.
It’s been said before, but they are now more than Pravda-esque, because they’ve VOLUNTARILY become mouthpieces for the Dems.
We will never find out anything near the truth about who knew what & when. What we already are well aware of is the fact that this “Resident of The White House” just, in very plain, easy to understand words, DOESN’T GIVE A RAT’S TAIL about AMERICA or what it used to stand for prior to him taking over.
Years ago, during segregation, there used to be a term for someone who spends all the money he/she can in the shortest period of time and that is all this egomaniac is portraying. Get over it – only 1/2 the country has gulped the Kool-aid and we are buried until the end…which is right around the corner!!!
I actually believe we will find out the truth – it almost always comes out, sooner or later. The problem with “later” is that eventually it’s a moot point: the damage has been done.
I still Have a hard time believe it’s actually McCain and Graham as the standard-bearers for Benghazi, but I certainly applaud this effort. They have their work cut out for them – if this administration won’t let the press take picture of Obama with Tiger Woods, they’ll try to stonewall every effort to get to the truth at every turn.
Hi, CTX,
The press doesn’t get mad at their BFF when he snubs them: they just get their feelings hurt, like a teenage girl with her first crush.
Have no fear: all will be forgiven as soon as Obama talks to them again.
