An Informed Opinion on Gun Control

The attached post is by far the most complete treatment of the subject I’ve seen anywhere recently. Its author says that until his suggestion is honestly considered, any alleged “national conversation” isn’t a debate, it’s a “lecture”…and he’s 100% right.

So please, take a few minutes and read it. It will either (A) change your mind completely, (B) reinforce what you already believe, or (C) leave you tremendously more informed on this subject than you were 10 minutes ago.

Monster Hunter Nation

I didn’t want to post about this, because frankly, it is exhausting. I’ve been having this exact same argument for my entire adult life. It is not an exaggeration when I say that I know pretty much exactly every single thing an anti-gun person can say. I’ve heard it over and over, the same old tired stuff, trotted out every single time there is a tragedy on the news that can be milked. Yet, I got sucked in, and I’ve spent the last few days arguing with people who either mean well but are uninformed about gun laws and how guns actually work (who I don’t mind at all), or the willfully ignorant (who I do mind), or the obnoxiously stupid who are completely incapable of any critical thinking deeper than a Facebook meme (them, I can’t stand).

Today’s blog post is going to be aimed at the first group…

  1. I can not understand the logic of people equating the violence with the object! The idea that violence would not occur if you removed an object from a person’s reach, boggles the mind. A person committed to causing violence will simply find another object and it is insanity to assume that you can remove every lethal object from people. This world is truly insane, promoting violence in every arena and deploring it when it hits close to home. It is okay for me, but not for thee! I hope Jesus returns soon, the people who are sane are getting scarcer by the minute. God bless you!

    • Thanks so much for the comment, LL!

Of course, you’re correct: an instrument/weapon/tool used for evil doesn’t make that instrument/weapon/tool evil.
Rather, it’s the person wielding it.

To say otherwise fits in PERFECTLY for the left: it’s the argument for the Mentally Lazy, after all.

  2. There is no law, ban or regulation that can stop the evil in this world. Clearly this young man needed more help, gun control might make it harder but would never stop such evil acts. I like yourself JTR have gone round and round with people about this issue. This time they certainly have taken this much more personal because of the young children.

To me this is about society in general, breakdown on all levels that we can all guess. Ask yourself why these shooting since Columbine have happened more often? Gun were available before then but these things just didn’t happen. After tragedy’s its always harder to defend your rights, they use the normal tactics of you don’t care about the dead. Society has changed, responsible gun ownership never has.

  3. The Left will simply not let go of the vision of a utopia where everyone loves everyone else, where everyone is equal in every way and life is no more harmful or ugly than the release of a million doves into the air every morning to celebrate the day.

They seem to forget that as doves fly, they drop reminders of their own to salt the earth and those unfortunate souls who happen to be below.

    • Rick, you missed the part about the Utopia needing to be ruled over by a select few who, of course, must have extra privileges because of their status, don’t ya know?

And yes JTR, I am temporarily back from sunny S. Florida, but must go back the day after Christmas. Have to clean up the left over trees. It’s part of the service we provide. Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a prosperous, Happy New Year.

  4. Lived with violence for 40 some years – abusive father, wwII survivor and a Pow! Made him crazy. Had guns in the house, he never killed us, because he had faith in God and prayed daily. None in my family have killed anyone or done any physical harm to anyone. We did not have an easy life. Always wondering what would happen. This kid if he had no gun would have used something else. You don’t know what is going on in the mind of people like this. Teach about God and maybe these people will have a conscience. Learn the l0 commandments – what is right and wrong. I’m sick of this whole lefty idea. They must all go to the same idiot school.!!!!!!!!
